The owner of a large retail chain took action after cases of sprat poisoning.
The administration of X5 Group (Pyaterochka, Perekrestok, Chizhik) has suspended sales of sprats of the Za Rodinu trademark (TM) in all stores in the Russian Federation.
This decision was made in light of reports from Yekaterinburg, RIA Novosti reports.
Here, two local residents were hospitalized with botulism after eating canned fish.
Doctors are now fighting for their lives; the patients’ condition is assessed as serious.
It is reported that residents of Yekaterinburg were hospitalized after consuming sprats of the TM "Za Rodinu".
But they were not purchased in a store, but at a mini-market from an unknown person who was selling from a truck.
X5 Group responded immediately as soon as information about the poisoning appeared.
The retail chains are currently suspending sales of this brand of canned goods.
New deliveries have been blocked until the results of the inspection are completed, company representatives said.
X5 Group added that they sent the goods for laboratory testing.
Analysis of customer complaints is also carried out.
