A deputy and former World Boxing Association champion spoke about the results of Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Nikolai Valuev explained why his compatriots have not yet won a single medal.
In a conversation with RIA Novosti, the State Duma member said that he addressed the athletes planning to go to Paris with parting words.
Valuev called on athletes to go to the Olympics for victories. Going for the sake of participation is a dubious idea, since Russians are required to compete under neutral status.
The deputy emphasized that the leaders of the Russian teams did not go to the Olympics. This can explain the lack of medals.
Swimmer Evgeny Somov and singles tennis players Mirra Andreeva, Diana Schneider and Ekaterina Alexandrova all had unsuccessful performances at the Olympics.
Cyclist Tamara Dronova managed to take only 21st place.
Valuev added that participation in the Olympics under neutral status is a personal choice for each athlete. But he urged them to be prepared for a negative reaction from society.
