American TV mastodon Phil Donahue has died at the age of 89 in New York.
The television personality died on Monday, August 19, Fox News reports.
Donahue's official cause of death has not yet been released. However, reports of his passing say that the TV host passed away after a long illness.
In Russia, he is known as the host of the USSR-USA teleconference.
In addition, Donahue hosted the program Pozner & Donahue with Vladimir Pozner. The program aired until 1996 on the American channel CNBC.
In the US, the showman is much more widely known. There, he is credited with being the "father" of the talk show genre. He is believed to have invented the format and hosted his daytime program for 30 years.
Donahue was the same age as Alain Delon, who died the previous day in France.
