The State Duma commented on the discussions surrounding the introduction of a tax on childlessness.
The head of the State Duma Committee on Labor stated that he was perplexed by such a move.
Yaroslav Nilov left this comment in his Telegram channel.
According to the parliamentarian, the birth rate must be increased first and foremost. He admitted that the authors of the initiative are striving for the same thing, but they have chosen the wrong method for doing so.
Nilov emphasized that action in a different direction will help correct the demographic situation – providing preferences to mothers, as well as families with children.
At the same time, the possible introduction of a so-called “childlessness tax” could have the opposite effect.
The parliamentarian did not rule out that such a decision is a mistake, since it can only frighten potential parents.
Moreover, Nilov reminded, there are also medical indicators that prevent people from having offspring, and bringing these reasons out into the open, in his opinion, is at the very least immoral.
