The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education commented on Vladimir Medinsky’s proposal.
State Duma deputy Oleg Smolin did not support the idea of an assistant to the Russian president.
In a conversation with Gazeta.Ru , the parliamentarian called the reduction of eleven years of schooling an “unaffordable luxury.”
Smolin acknowledged that there is an acute shortage of personnel in the Russian Federation. But reducing the length of study in schools and universities is not a solution to this problem.
The deputy emphasized that such an approach will reduce the quality of personnel training. There will be serious questions about the qualifications of doctors, engineers, teachers and other specialists, Smolin believes.
Moreover, Medinsky’s proposal contradicts the global trend.
A presidential aide previously called 11 years of schooling an "unaffordable luxury."
According to Medinsky, in the coming years the period of obtaining secondary and higher education in the Russian Federation will be reduced.
The official emphasized that young Russians should begin to engage in career guidance not at the age of 19, but much earlier.
According to Medinsky’s forecast, changes await the education system in the next 10 years.
