The senior priest of the Church on the Blood in Yekaterinburg, Maxim Minyailo, criticized the idea of surrogate motherhood.
He is convinced that women are driven to do this by poverty and lack of support from men.
In an interview with Channel Four , Minyailo stated that the church does not support this phenomenon.
Moreover, a representative of the Russian Orthodox Church compared surrogacy to prostitution.
He stressed that surrogacy can be seen as exploitation of the “human body and even its soul” by those who are able to pay for it.
The archpriest said that women decide to use surrogacy because of poverty and lack of support.
The priest noted that surrogacy can be compared to the worst form of prostitution.
He believes that women need to be protected from this.
