The Russian government supported the renaming of Rostov

One of the oldest cities in Russia will receive its original name.

Rostov in the Yaroslavl region will be renamed. The decision was approved by the federal government.

The Russian Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal to rename Rostov to Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Evraev reported on Telegram.

The politician noted that a new important step had been taken in the context of restoring “historical justice.”

Evraev emphasized that the solution to the issue is in the final stages.

At this stage, the document has been sent to the State Duma. It is possible that the city will be officially renamed as early as 2024.

Rosreestr supported the decision to return the city to its historical name on June 7.

Rostov is considered one of the oldest Russian cities. The first mention of it dates back to 862.
