The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) reported on the progress of research into the first domestic cancer vaccine.

The comment was shared by the chief oncologist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Andrey Kaprin.

According to him, the vaccine has passed a new important stage,RIA Novosti reports. Preclinical studies have been successfully completed.

Scientists sent a letter to the Ministry of Health asking for permission to conduct the first phase of clinical trials.

While the agency is making a decision, the authors of the project will be looking for volunteers who will take part in Phase I testing of the drug.

Kaprin said that volunteers will be selected based on medical indications.

Clinical trials are the most responsible and important stage of work on a drug.

Cancer vaccine

The Russian drug is based on mRNA technology. The uniqueness of the development is that first a part of the patient's tumor is taken for examination.

Based on the collected information, which takes into account many of the characteristics of a particular type of cancer, an individual vaccine is created.
