The authorities are planning changes to the rules for providing housing to out-of-town students.

Low-income people and those in difficult life situations may receive priority in receiving a place in a dormitory.

Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov shared a comment on this topic, RIA Novosti reports.

Falkov proposed to keep dormitories only for students from low-income families and those who have encountered serious difficulties.

The head of the department also spoke in favor of introducing another status for student housing, which differs from a dormitory, but with a “reasonable price.”

The Minister stressed that the state must provide housing to all students who wish to do so. But two categories of students are given priority.

The Ministry's plans

Falkov reported that a large-scale project to reconstruct 800 dormitories is already underway. The department plans to improve the living conditions of 250 thousand students.

In addition, the implementation of the President's order to create at least 25 modern campuses will begin in 2025. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
