When visiting a temple, special attention should be paid to the choice of clothing.
Archpriest Maxim Pervozvansky, a cleric of the capital's Church of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste in Spasskaya Sloboda, told us what things are inappropriate in a sacred place.
He explained in a conversation with RIA Novosti that short skirts, bare navels and shoulders are not appropriate for visiting church. Men should also not wear shorts above the knee.
Pervozvansky reminded that women's trousers and pants are considered acceptable for the temple. In a specific temple, where there is a strict dress code, you can wear a skirt over trousers. Some monasteries offer skirts at the entrance
Clothing should not be provocative. According to the priest, this principle is in effect in different churches.
He also said that men, according to tradition, must remove their headgear when entering a temple. Women, on the contrary, cover their heads.
A woman who comes to the temple in inappropriate clothing should tie a scarf over her skirt or cover her shoulders with it.
The priest explained that the dress code helps to get into the mood for prayer.
The temple reminds us of the sacred space that a person enters, he added.
