Seismologists have warned of the possibility of a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka.
On August 18, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 was recorded here. But, as scientists note, this could be a foreshock, followed by a stronger earthquake.
According to experts, in the next two days Kamchatka could be shaken by tremors with an intensity of 6 to 9 points, TASS reports.
After August 19, the likelihood of such an event will decrease.
If an earthquake does occur, the tremors could be felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Elizovo, Vilyuchinsk and the village of Ust-Kamchatsk.
Scientists explained that significant seismic energy had accumulated in the region, which was partially released during the recent earthquake.
The epicenter was recorded in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 46 km, 118 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Experts have established that an earthquake of magnitude 7 was recorded in the city itself and its environs.
