The Ministry of Internal Affairs shared information about deepfakes with Russians.
The head of the department admitted that fraudsters often act on behalf of law enforcement officers.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev stated this during a meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, RIA Novosti reports.
The head of the Russian police has acknowledged the danger of growing activity on the part of fraudsters, who are actively using deepfakes.
They often approach citizens, introducing themselves as employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The difficulty in identifying them is that criminals often use neural networks to generate images and voices of representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As an example, Kolokoltsev recalled a video allegedly filmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and demonstrating the operational work of the department.
This video was actively distributed on social networks under the logo of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is why it looked real. However, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk denied the agency's involvement in its creation.
