The Russian Ministry of Digital Development announced that it intends to conduct an experiment on the submission of biometric data by foreign citizens.
It is reported that in this case, foreign citizens should be understood to include stateless persons.
The agency explained: “All foreign citizens crossing the Russian border will take part in the experiment,” as reported by the PRIME agency.
In addition, it is indicated that the experiment is planned to be conducted “from 00:00 on December 1, 2024 to 23:59 on June 30, 2026.”
Test methods
It is also noted that, in accordance with the above decision, foreign citizens will be required to submit biometric data upon entry into Russia.
In particular, such persons will be required to scan their faces and provide fingerprints.
The Russian Ministry of Digital Development added: “First, biometrics will be collected from foreigners at several checkpoints.”
Then, according to the department, foreign citizens will be required to pass the relevant standards in advance. This only applies to persons entering Russia without a visa.
