The long New Year holidays are approaching, but not all Russians will be lucky enough to have a rest during these days.

The State Duma explained how the work of those who will have to work from January 1 to January 8 should be paid.

Deputy Sergei Gavrilov from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction dispelled all doubts in a comment to RIA Novosti .

According to the parliamentarian, workers who are forced to work when everyone else is on vacation often have questions about wages.

As Gavrilov emphasized, the procedure for paying for work in the period from January 1 to January 8 is strictly regulated by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. An employee, regardless of how he is employed, must receive payment in double the amount.

He [the employee – editor’s note] is entitled to double pay for every hour worked, Gavrilov stated.

That is, those who work on a piecework basis have the right to count on a double piecework rate. The same applies to those who work on an hourly basis: each hour of work must be paid at a double rate.

And even if the work shift only covers a few hours of a holiday, these hours must also be paid at double the rate.
