The Committee for Information Technology and Communications of St. Petersburg has developed a new ban for local officials.

Now those who work in the civil service are prohibited from using two popular messengers.

As RIA Novosti was told by the office of the city's vice-governor Stanislav Kazarin, they are talking about Telegram and WhatsApp.

Earlier, rumors about this restriction, announced in a corresponding letter from the city committee, spread in a number of local Telegram channels and media in St. Petersburg.

As a result, information about the existence of this letter was confirmed by the administration of the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg.

It is specified that such measures were considered necessary to protect official correspondence that was sent via the above-mentioned messengers.

As an alternative, officials were offered to use a program called eXpress. This application has similar functions to the banned messengers, and its developers are Russian programmers.
