St. Petersburg deputies are considering introducing restrictions on the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city.
Members of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg are studying the initiative, which was previously adopted by the Vologda Region as the first in Russia.
The authorities of the Northern capital wanted to adopt the experience of the Vologda residents, but in a less radical way, RIA Novosti writes.
Thus, in the Vologda region, from March 1, 2025, alcohol will be sold on weekdays only between 12:00 and 14:00. This measure does not apply to weekends and holidays.
Petersburg deputies wanted to discuss the possibility of introducing similar measures. Proposals are currently being collected.
For example, options are being considered for selling alcohol by the hour and moving sales points away from social facilities.
However, it is emphasized that the measures will be more lenient than in the Vologda region.
The Kremlin previously noted that decisions to restrict alcohol sales are the prerogative of regional authorities.
