An expert named one habit that ruins sleep and reduces the quality of life.

A comment on this topic was shared by somnologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Roman Buzunov.

In an interview with Sputnik radio, the specialist called sleeping with a light source a bad habit.

For example, sleeping with the TV on disrupts circadian rhythms.

The doctor said that in the dark the body begins to produce the hormone melatonin, which helps you fall asleep.

If there is any light source, this process is slowed down and the quality of sleep ultimately decreases.

Buzunov explained that during the day a person produces one set of hormones, and at night another. Some of them require certain conditions.

At night, in the darkness, the brain understands that it is time to sleep, so it starts all the necessary processes.

If there is a light source, then the effect of semi-wakefulness is achieved. This leads to a feeling of drowsiness and "breakdown" in the morning and during the day.

But at the same time, the expert noted that children and the elderly should not sleep in complete darkness.

The diffused light of a night light will help the former avoid fear, and the latter – the loss of coordination, the somnologist explained.
