The head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team spoke harshly about IOC President Thomas Bach.
Tatyana Pokrovskaya stated that the head of the international organization managed to “spit in the soul” of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
The 9th president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) pursued a dishonest policy, the coach said in an interview with RIA Novosti .
Pokrovskaya called Bach's behavior in recent years as head of the IOC disgusting.
She noted that Bach himself is an Olympic champion. He knows and understands very well what it feels like to be preparing for a competition and striving for his dream.
Bach knew this, and so he dealt a significant blow to the Russian athletes, the coach emphasized.
For the first time since 2000, synchronized swimmers from outside the Russian Federation won the Olympics. The victory in Paris was won by the Chinese team.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus were admitted to the Games only as individual and neutral athletes.
Representatives of team sports, including synchronized swimmers, were banned.
Meanwhile, 70-year-old Bach is preparing to step down as IOC president. The Paris Games were his last in this post. The election of a new 10th IOC president will take place in March 2025.
