Rospotrebnadzor specialists commented on the frightening reports about creatures that “eat the brain.”

Experts have dotted all the i's and reassured those who are vacationing on domestic beaches. But they have warned about the risks for those who are planning to visit one of a number of countries.

As of early July 2024, not a single case of infection with the amoeba Naegleria fowleri has been recorded in Russia, the press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported on its Telegram channel.

This parasite does not live in the Russian Federation. This amoeba is mainly found in India, Pakistan, and the southern United States.

It also became known that in Israel a man was hospitalized with inflammation of the brain after visiting the beach. Local media reported that it was Naegleria fowleri.

At the same time, the Russian agency indicated that domestic beaches and bodies of water have their own risks.

For example, in the summer there is a significant risk of becoming infected with rotavirus, cercariosis, giardiasis, hepatitis A or fungus.

These risks can be minimized by choosing specially equipped areas for swimming that have been tested for compliance with sanitary standards.

A second case of death from botulism was previously reported after mass poisoning.
