Rospotrebnadzor commented on the situation with the increase in coronavirus infections.

According to the agency, this phenomenon is associated with the change of seasons.

RIA Novosti journalists received this comment from representatives of Rospotrebnadzor.

Representatives of the department also hastened to assure that, despite the growth, the situation with COVID-19 in Russia is currently characterized as stable.

Compared with the figures for the previous week, Rospotrebnadzor identified 10,200 cases of the disease, which is 29.1% higher.

As the department clarified, the slight increase is due to the end of the holiday season, which is why people are returning to work and study.

This, in turn, leads to an increase in social contacts and, as a consequence, to an increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus.

Rospotrebnadzor also reminded that the "omicron" strain is currently predominant in Russia. The FLiRT, KS.1 and JN.1.16.1 strains are also circulating.
