It has become known that a Muscovite tried to import radioactive volcanic sand into the Russian Federation for the production of cosmetics.

Customs officers discovered radioactive sand in the luggage of a Russian woman who arrived from India.

The incident occurred at Vnukovo Airport during the baggage check of arriving passengers.

Customs officers established that the passenger was carrying radioactive volcanic sand, which contains natural thorium-232.

The Yantar radiation monitoring system was triggered.

This radionuclide is hazardous to health, but the passenger did not know about it.

The goods were seized and left for long-term storage in a special room.

According to the decision of Rospotrebnadzor, the import of radioactive sand into Russia is not permitted.
