The President approved a law that introduces a ban on the sale of non-alcoholic energy drinks to minors.

After the rule comes into force, sellers must verify whether the energy drink buyer is 18 years old or older.

The document, signed by Vladimir Putin, is posted on the website for the official publication of legal acts.

The law will officially come into effect in Russia on March 1 next year.

It prohibits the sale of tonic drinks to all trade organizations, individual entrepreneurs, farms and individual sellers. Punishment is provided for violation of the law.

Starting next spring, sellers will be required to refuse to sell such drinks if they have doubts about the age of the buyer, who cannot present documents confirming age.

The list of documents will be determined by the body authorized by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The State Duma noted that the issue of banning the sale of energy drinks to minors has been brewing for a long time.

The drink causes serious damage to the cardiovascular system of children, causes addiction and provokes nervous and mental illnesses, the deputies emphasized.
