Patriarch Kirill did not agree with the former Prime Minister of Chechnya, Muslim Khuchiev.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church believes that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution should not be banned in schools.
The patriarch's commentary is published on his website .
Darwin's theory points to a divine design for man, so it is not a factor in anti-religious controversies.
The Patriarch noted that God created an amazing Universe and endowed man with the ability to develop.
Evolution is part of the divine plan, because man, by his own efforts, relying on external factors, can develop as it happened within the framework of evolutionary processes.
Therefore, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church believes that schoolchildren should study Darwin’s theory and that it should not be excluded from the curriculum.
At the same time, some members of the clergy have previously repeatedly spoken negatively about the evolutionary theory, calling it “unscientific” and “anti-religious.”
This topic was discussed again after a statement by the Chechen ex-Prime Minister Khuchiev.
He approached the Minister of Education, Sergei Kravtsov, with a proposal to exclude Darwin's theory from the school curriculum.
In his opinion, it is “wrong” and “contrary to religion.”
