The danger of fire in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (ChEZ) is associated with radioactive ash.

Even a small amount of such ash, if inhaled into the lungs, can cause serious health problems.

Nuclear physicist Andrey Ozharovsky spoke about this in an interview with Lenta.ru .

If this ash rises into the air and reaches populated areas, the consequences could be dire.

The expert noted that in such a case there is a risk of inhaling this ash and receiving internal radiation.

Ozharovsky added that fires occur in the ChEZ. The causes can be both natural and anthropogenic.

The physicist explained that air monitoring stations can confirm or refute concerns. According to him, they were previously in Belarus and Poland.

A forest fire broke out in the Chernobyl exclusion zone on September 3. Some experts say radioactive substances could reach Poland.
