Residents of the Moscow region have already become victims of a new method of deception.
Criminals began stealing money from Russians by posing as utility workers.
State Duma deputy Nikita Chaplin spoke about this, RIA Novosti reports.
In this case, the scammers also act remotely.
They can call a potential victim, send an SMS message or write in one of the messengers.
Fraudsters demand that Russians pay off non-existent debts for housing and communal services.
To do this, attackers use various techniques, including pressure methods that force people to act quickly and thoughtlessly.
The deputy advises to clarify information when receiving such messages or calls.
Chaplin pointed out that some residents of the Moscow region have already fallen for this trick.
Fraudsters pretend to be not only utility workers, but also employees of insurance companies.
Previously, it became known that this scheme is used to gain access to Russians’ accounts on Gosuslugi or banking applications.
All the tricks come down to the victim dictating to the scammers an SMS code that comes to their phone during communication with the scammers.
