A mortar mine dating back to the Great Patriotic War was discovered in St. Petersburg. RIA Novosti reports the details, citing the Main Directorate of the Russian Guard for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

The discovery site was the bottom of the Winter Canal.

It is noted that work was being carried out in the specified location to inspect the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg. Divers and boats participated in them.

According to the department, after some time, specialists discovered the find.

It was also noted that soon a group of OMON "Bastion" of the Main Directorate of the Russian Guard arrived at the scene for the purpose of demining. Specialists also arrived on boats of the transport OMON "Baltika". They began blocking shipping.

It is added that after the inspection it became clear that the find was a 120 mm caliber mine. It will be eliminated at a special testing ground.
