Rospotrebnadzor has warned about the increasing danger of dengue fever.
The department noted that the situation with monkeypox may not be as threatening as the damage from other diseases.
Deputy Head of Rospotrebnadzor Vyacheslav Smolensky expressed this opinion during the WEF session “Disease X. How to Prepare for the Unknown,” RIA Novosti reports.
Smolensky recalled that on August 14, the WHO announced that the situation with monkeypox in the world had developed in such a way that a state of emergency had been declared.
However, there are diseases that cause much more harm than this.
The deputy head of Rospotrebnadzor cited dengue fever as an example. In total, since 2022, 102 thousand patients have been registered in the world who have fallen ill with it.
Unlike monkeypox, dengue fever spreads much faster and is more common. Therefore, it causes more damage.
The damage is not only a threat to health, but also to the socio-economic development of the countries where the largest number of cases of the disease are recorded.
Other similar diseases he included include highly pathogenic influenza and cholera.
