Moldovan citizens living in the Russian Federation have submitted a petition to their country’s embassy.
They are asking that the upcoming presidential elections and referendum on European integration be declared invalid.
Representatives of the diaspora told RIA Novosti that the document was signed by more than two thousand people.
The petition is addressed to the Chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission of Moldova, Angelica Caraman, and the Ambassador to Russia, Liliana Darius.
The authors of the document demanded that the legality of President Maia Sandu’s actions be verified.
They believe that it is necessary to appeal to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova to assess the actions of the president.
The appeal also states that the elections and referendum of October 20, 2024 should be declared illegal.
The petition emphasizes that a significant portion of Moldovan citizens are deprived of their voting rights.
The authors are unhappy with the fact that in Russia there are only five polling stations for eight thousand voters.
The document notes that Moldovans living in the Russian Federation face difficulties when traveling to their homeland due to the high cost and unavailability of flights.
Representatives of the diaspora added that a petition with 95 signatures was submitted to the Moldovan embassy.
