The presence of preserved food in basements can cause unsanitary conditions. RIA Novosti reports details with reference to Natalia Svechnikova, associate professor of the civil law disciplines department at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
It is noted that food can attract insects and rodents. This contributes to the emergence of unsanitary conditions.
In addition, if moisture gets into the basement, the food may become unusable.
According to Svechnikova, unauthorized use of basements, as well as violation of the rules for the use of residential premises, may lead to administrative liability.
The lawyer noted that basements can be used for storing things if there are special storage spaces.
In addition, it is possible to rent storage rooms or develop a project for the reconstruction of the basement after receiving the majority of votes at a meeting of residents.
