The State Duma is thinking about strengthening the patriotic spirit among the younger generation.

Deputy Leonid Kalashnikov has prepared an initiative according to which 14-year-old Russians receiving their first passport must take the oath of citizenship of the Russian Federation.

The bill was posted on the website of the Duma database.

In the future, members of the lower house of parliament will consider amendments to the law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation”.

If the initiative is approved in three parliamentary readings, then young Russians will have to take the oath of citizenship of Russia before receiving a passport.

Such a tradition exists in the army, but in this case the oath to the state is taken by citizens who are at least 18 years old.

But deputies believe that work in this context with young people needs to start earlier.

When receiving a passport, teenagers must consciously take on the obligation to comply with the norms of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the authors of the bill believe.
