The new director of the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery is Sergei Kachkovsky.
The candidacy of the former military commissar, former deputy chairman of the Committee on Legality, Law and Order and Security was presented to employees by the vice-governor of St. Petersburg, Natalya Chechina.
She said that Kachkovsky, in his post, will be engaged in preparing a memorial for many generations for the anniversary and 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The press service of the Committee on Social Policy on VKontakte noted that the vice-governor reminded about the need to develop interaction with veterans and youth.
Kachkovsky is known for his participation in the First Chechen War. He was seriously wounded and awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation.
Until 2011, the reserve colonel was the military commissar of the Leningrad region. After that, Kachkovsky held a similar position in the military commissariat of St. Petersburg.
At the end of 2023, Colonel Marat Urmans replaced Kachkovsky in the post. Now the former military commissar of St. Petersburg has been appointed director of the Piskarevskoye Cemetery.
