A Russian doctor has explained whether blood type affects the increased risk of developing cancer.

The head of the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center for Children's Hematology, Oncology and Immunology, Alexander Rumyantsev, spoke on this topic.

Recently, a group of scientists stated that people with the first blood group supposedly have high protection against cancer.

In a conversation with Radio 1 , Rumyantsev denied this information.

He believes that there is no clear scientific basis for such a statement.

According to the doctor, people with blood type I are no less likely to develop cancer than people with other blood types.

Rumyantsev noted that there was previously a theory that blood type was somehow connected with the risk of cancer.

But now genetic markers are used to assess the potential likelihood of developing this disease.

They allow us to more accurately determine a person’s predisposition to a particular type of cancer.

And blood type is not used in practice now, since it does not play any significant role in this context, the doctor summed up.
