A dermatologist has named an atypical sign of cancer that many people do not notice.

Doctor Scott Walter says fine, light-colored hair on the nose, cheeks, or ears could indicate cancer.

The doctor explained that hair covers the body of mammals, including humans. It is called lanugo.

But this hair falls out even before birth, writes the MedicalXpress portal.

Its function is to protect the baby's skin from intrauterine fluid.

A healthy adult does not have lanugo. The appearance of such hair on the cheeks, nose or ears may indicate the development of lung, breast, uterine or ovarian cancer, the doctor warned.

Walter clarified that in some cases this sign appears two years before the main symptoms appear.

The doctor classifies lanugo as a clinical and laboratory manifestation of a malignant tumor.

The early stage of the disease is also characterized by inflammation of the tongue, changes in taste, and loss of hair color, the doctor said.
