Director of International Cooperation Center Arrested in Migrant Case

The head of the Center for International Cooperation was placed under house arrest.

Nadezhda Popova is suspected of organizing illegal migration and bribery.

This was reported on Saturday, August 31, on the Telegram channel of the courts of general jurisdiction of Moscow.

The director of the center was placed under house arrest until September 21. This decision was made by the Tagansky Court of the capital.

Popova is accused of committing crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code.

She could face up to 8 years in prison for bribery, and up to seven for organizing illegal migration.

The arrested woman heads the Center for International Cooperation at the Moscow State Technological University "Stankin".

After her arrest, her home was searched. According to media reports, Popova helped foreign citizens who were not planning to study in the Russian Federation obtain student visas.

Law enforcement officers regularly suppress illegal migration channels in many regions of the country.
