Rosstat has recorded a sharp drop in birth rates in the Russian Federation.

The figures for 2024 showed an anti-record of 26 years ago.

In January-June, 599.6 thousand children were born, the department's website reports. This is 16.6 thousand less than last year.

According to Rosstat, the lowest rate was recorded in June. In the first month of summer, 98.6 thousand children were born.

In previous years, the number of newborns practically never fell below 100 thousand.

Such poor birth rates were recorded in 1998, when Russia declared default.

The statistics agency reported that the Russian Federation continues to record an increase in natural population decline – 321.5 thousand people in the first half of the year. This is 49 thousand more than in January-June 2023.

The birth rate issue is acute in Russia. Politicians not only pay attention to it, but also develop stimulating bills that should correct the current situation.
