Deputy Oleg Matveychev proposed a way to reduce the number of divorces in Russia.
The parliamentarian refers to the successful experience of Azerbaijan.
July 8 is Family, Love and Fidelity Day in Russia.
On this occasion, deputies and experts held a meeting of the working group of the State Duma Committee on the Protection of the Family, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood.
As reported by the Parliamentary Newspaper , Matveychev suggested that his colleagues pay attention to Azerbaijan’s experience in reducing the number of divorces.
The country has had a law on mediation since 2021. The republic obliges divorcing couples to use the services of mediators.
These specialists help spouses avoid bringing the case to court or even manage to save the family.
There are some requirements for mediators: age from 25, higher education, work experience from 3 years. In addition, the future specialist must undergo additional training.
Matveychev said that thanks to the efforts of mediators, 20% of couples do not go to court. About 10% enter into a settlement agreement. 7% change their minds about getting divorced.
A fee is charged for the services of mediators if the couple decides to end the marriage.
There are mediators in Russia, too, but spouses voluntarily turn to their services. They are not popular, experts say.
In addition, there is no database of mediators, which makes it impossible to assess their number, education, and work experience.
Earlier it became known that Russia may begin to impose fines for improper keeping of pets.
