A woman from Makhachkala contracted botulism due to an injection from a cosmetologist

An incident of botulism infection occurred in Makhachkala.

The woman was injected with an unregistered drug to correct wrinkles and infected with a dangerous virus.

The incident became known from a publication by the press service of Rospotrebnadzor for Dagestan on the Telegram channel.

It is noted that after the case of the disease was identified, the work of two cosmetology offices was suspended for an indefinite period. They are accused of providing services that do not meet sanitary requirements.

Circumstances of the incident

As the investigation revealed, the incident occurred in one of the shopping centers in Makhachkala, where a beauty salon is located.

The victim came to the appointment for the purpose of correcting expression wrinkles. She was given an injection of an unregistered drug Refinex, which contains botulinum toxin.

Several days passed, and the woman developed symptoms typical of botulism:

  • dizziness;
  • deterioration of vision;
  • difficulty swallowing, etc.

The victim was promptly taken to the hospital's infectious diseases department.
