Soviet and Russian actor Valery Yakovlev died at the age of 86.

The head of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev announced the death of the People's Artist of the USSR on his Telegram channel.

The artistic director of the Chuvash Drama Theatre named after K. V. Ivanov passed away yesterday. He was 85 years old.

Valery Nikolaevich combined the talents of an actor, director and organizer.

In addition, the head of Chuvashia emphasizes that the People's Artist of the USSR is the “real father” of the theater.

His energy and professionalism became an example and source of inspiration for the younger generation of actors, Nikolaev noted.

Yakovlev was born on September 25, 1939 in the village of Trekhizb-Shemursha in Chuvashia.

The actor began his career after studying in 1961 at the Chuvash Drama Theater and devoted more than 60 years to it.

Valery Nikolaevich's creative energy was directed exclusively towards the theatre.

Yakovlev has been artistic director since 1990, and in 1991 he became People's Artist of the USSR.

Yakovlev was among the last cultural figures to receive this honorary title.

Alla Pugacheva and Oleg Yankovsky also became holders of this title.
