Actress Valeria Lomakina has contacted the public after unsuccessful jokes about the Karelian language.
The 37-year-old artist made a statement on her page on the social network VKontakte.
Lomakina reported that after what happened she decided to terminate her contract with the Petrozavodsk theater.
The actress admitted that after what happened she can no longer perform on stage at the Drama Theatre of the Republic of Karelia.
“Once again, I apologize to everyone I unwittingly offended,” Lomakina addressed the public.
On air on one of the federal shows, Valeria made a scandalous joke about the Karelian language.
She said that the national theatre is the only place where this language is spoken.
At the same time, the audience does not understand what the artists are saying, so they use headphones through which the translation is broadcast.
Lomakina thus hinted at the lack of demand for the Karelian language and compared it to an atavism like male nipples.
In her opinion, this language is only needed for the spectacle. The jury, however, positively assessed the performance of the actress from Petrozavodsk.
But a scandal erupted on the Internet. The public criticized the actress, and activists and authorities began to prepare an appeal to representatives of the law.
