Timeframe for bringing Russia's Tsar Laser to full power revealed

Doctor of Technical Sciences Valentin Kostyukov spoke about the Tsar-Laser project.

The director of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center - VNIIEF shared his comment on Monday, August 12.

On air on the Russia 24 TV channel, Kostyukov reported that work on the UFL-2M (“Tsar-Laser”) laser installation has completed the first stage.

Currently, specialists are justifying the costs and implementation timeframes for bringing the installation to full capacity.

The professor reported that specialists have worked out the technology, physics and physical model, and launched the first stage of physical foundations that are related to engineering systems.

According to the scientist, the Tsar Laser will operate at full capacity in the next 4–5 years, i.e. by 2028–2029.

By that time, UFL-2M will produce maximum results, including in solving individual issues.

The range of problems for which the "Tsar-Laser" was created is quite broad. For example, the destruction of asteroids can be called an "exotic" issue.
