As digital technologies develop, so do fraudulent criminal schemes.
In particular, scammers have developed a new way of stealing other people’s money by stealing users’ Telegram accounts.
The theft of accounts is carried out by using the victim's phone number, as reported by the TASS news agency.
It is indicated that the scammers send multiple requests via the phone number to receive a confirmation code to enter the messenger.
Once the code has been received, the criminals, using fake accounts, prompt the victim to follow the link in order to supposedly protect themselves.
How to protect yourself
It is emphasized that the said scheme involves the use of an account called Telegram Security Messenger.
Through the specified account, the victim is asked to follow a specific link and act according to the instructions.
Experts stressed that it is easy to spot a scam: usually in such messages the link extends throughout the entire text.
Also, Telegram Security Messenger lacks verification, which should also alert a potential victim.
