Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin spoke about the fate of YouTube in Russia.
He told in his Telegram channel whether the authorities are planning a forced blocking of the popular video hosting site.
Lately there has been a lot of talk about how Russia allegedly wants to block the video service.
But the deputy stated that, as of today, the State Duma is not discussing a scenario for the forced closure of YouTube on the territory of the Russian Federation.
He also stressed that the slowdown in the service will not affect the operation of the Android mobile operating system and other Google products (mail, browser, etc.).
Gorelkin pointed out that this could happen if YouTube is forcibly blocked in the Russian Federation.
The parliamentarian noted that Russia’s retaliatory measures against the administration of the video hosting site should not harm Russians.
In this situation, the deputy sees only one solution to the issue: Google representatives must return to Russia and service their equipment, pay fines and reopen the representative office.
