Scientists have found a flooded mountain with three volcanoes, which they have already called the prototype of the mythical Atlantis.
It was discovered off the coast of Lanzarote Island (Canary Islands, Spain).
The mountain was found while studying the relief of the ocean floor using a remotely controlled vehicle, writes the LiveScience portal.
The mountain's diameter is 50 km. Its base lies 2.3 km below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. The summit already has its own name - Los Atlantes.
Millions of years ago, life was in full swing here. But we are not talking about some race of superhumans with advanced technologies that perished as a result of a global catastrophe.
About 56–33 million years ago, mammals lived here, including the early ancestors of modern animals.
Late traces of life here may have been left during the last ice age.
Atlantis has long been recognized as a myth, although some enthusiasts and speculators continue to tell stories about the Atlantean civilization that disappeared without a trace.
