Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, reported that a new type of fraud using QR codes has become known.
According to Nemkin, scammers can replace the code and send it to the victim by email.
The expert explained: “Instead of paying for a particular service using a QR code, the money could end up in the hands of criminals,” as reported by RBC .
Most often, scammers offer to follow a link via a QR code so that the victim can allegedly receive the bonuses offered to him.
New scheme
It is reported that such actions may ultimately result in the loss of both money and personal data.
Nemkin noted: “Recently, fraudulent schemes have been developing in conjunction with digital technologies.”
In particular, scammers often use the so-called deepfake scam.
For these purposes, criminals shoot video and audio with substitution of faces and voices. Subsequently, these materials are used for blackmail or extortion.
