The United Nations (UN) has reported that global warming is taking a large number of human lives.
According to the Secretary General of the Organization, António Guterres, these climatic conditions kill half a million people every year.
Guterres stressed: “This figure is 30 times higher than the death toll from any other natural disaster,” as reported by the BBC .
In addition, according to the UN Secretary General, the heat “undermines the economy and slows down progress.”
Critical situation
The UN estimates that about 600 people have died in Pakistan from the heat, while hundreds of pilgrims have also died during the Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The heat poses the greatest danger to elderly and pregnant citizens.
However, Guterres said, poor people who lack the means to make their lives easier in critical climate conditions are also at risk.
The UN also points out that each of the last 13 months has been warmer than all previous periods, and this raises certain concerns.
