Scientists have found out which items in the bathroom can pose an increased threat to the human body.
Your toothbrush and shower head can be dangerous because they can harbor bacteria and viruses.
This is the conclusion reached by scientists from Northeastern University, who published their findings inFrontiers in Microbiomes .
As part of the experiment, experts visited many American homes, where they collected samples from shower heads and toothbrush bristles.
DNA sequencing was used to analyse the data, which made it possible to identify more than 600 different viruses in the samples.
At the same time, scientists note that no two identical samples were found: each brush and shower head had its own microorganisms.
Scientists have recorded that 314 viruses were detected in just one of the samples they received.
Viruses and bacteria found on toothbrush bristles are associated with the human biome, while microorganisms associated with drinking water and soil were found on the surface of shower heads.
According to scientists, most of the discovered viruses are not dangerous to humans.
