An unusual discovery made during archaeological excavations has become known.
A neighborhood has been discovered in Bulgaria that is strikingly reminiscent of the hobbit village from the film epic “The Lord of the Rings.”
This was reported by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) on its website .
According to media reports, the excavations are being carried out in the Kardzhali region in southern Bulgaria. The city of Perperikon is located here, which is considered the final resting place of the legendary singer and hero of ancient Greek myths, Orpheus.
One of the quarters of Perperikon, dating back to the 13th-14th centuries, is strikingly reminiscent of a settlement of fictional creatures called hobbits, who are the heroes of the above-mentioned film saga.
The area of the small houses found at the excavation site did not exceed 20 square meters. Nevertheless, entire families used to live in such conditions.
The houses were separated from each other by narrow streets, and kitchen utensils, such as ancient hand mills, were found in the living quarters themselves.
According to a group of archaeologists led by Professor Nikolai Ovcharov, the quarter discovered by scientists could have been a refuge for the poorest strata of the population of Perperikon.
