Security experts have found a serious vulnerability in robotic vacuum cleaners and other smart devices from the Chinese brand Ecovacs.
Experts say the company's products are not properly protected from potential hacking.
The vulnerability was found in the Bluetooth connection channel. It turned out to be very easy to hack and secretly connect to the camera and microphone on devices, writes the TechCrunch portal.
For example, specialists were able to penetrate the system of a robot vacuum cleaner from a distance of 130 m.
The lawn mower turned out to be even easier to "open". Experts found out that its Bluetooth transmitter is always on.
The device itself does not have any indicators to indicate that the device is recording video or audio.
There is a PIN code that the user must enter to start recording. But it is stored in the device's memory as a text file. With the right skills, a hacker can easily get hold of it.
Experts added that hacking one such device makes it easier to penetrate the system of other gadgets located nearby.
