The Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has released information that the Telegram messenger may be blocked in the country.
It is emphasized that the same fate will most likely befall the Bigo Live service, which is used for streaming broadcasts.
The foreign portal Jakarta Globe , in particular, writes: “According to the Indonesian authorities, the said services can be used to distribute illegal content.”
It is also indicated that the platforms may be seen promoting online gambling.
Possible consequences
Indonesian Minister of Communications Budi Ari Setiadi spoke out in this regard.
As the official emphasized, the department has already warned Telegram and Bigo Live about serious consequences.
However, according to Budi Ari Setiadi, the reaction of the platforms did not satisfy the country's authorities and was unconvincing.
The minister stressed that the best response would be to block both services on the territory of the Indonesian state.
