Russian users encountered a problem when creating a new Google account.
This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Anton Gorelkin.
The deputy said that many users from the Russian Federation are currently facing difficulties in confirming a new Google account using a Russian mobile number, RIA Novosti reports.
When creating a new account, the user's phone number is requested. If a person enters a Russian number, the system does not accept it.
After entering the number, a notification appears that it “cannot be used for verification.”
Gorelkin noted that the specific reason has not yet been named. He suggested waiting for an official comment from the company.
The parliamentarian stressed that it is too early to talk about Google’s decision to abandon operations in the Russian Federation.
This could be a glitch or the US Treasury Department sanctions that come into effect on September 12.
